The LINK QUARTET @ GO! Lleida Sixties Festival Posted by Hello
The LINK QUARTET supporting the JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET Posted by Hello

Cuarto Go Lleida !!!

Acción!, Creación!, Reacción!... Llegamos al cuarto Go!

The Soundtrack To Wilson Chance
"The Sound Of Danger"
Hammond Beat

Just what the doctor ordered - a heavyweight selection of acts those nice people over at Hammond Beat have pulled together from around the globe to create this - the soundtrack to the forthcoming film Wilson Chance ( to be released summer 2004). At times sounding like the most devastatingly good library music you'll never get your hands on (check out "Greased On Delta Street" by Italy's The Link Quartet) and at other times leave you wondering why John Barry never thought of that. The soundtrack features the legend that is Vic Flick - no seriously it does! And yes he's still got it (check out "The Wilson Chance Theme" by The Special Agents feat. the great man himself). Quite clearly an essential release upon listening, showcasing some of the 'Hammond Groove' scenes most creative and musically adventurous ensembles. Acts include: The Link Quartet from Italy, The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E. from Switzerland, Mike Painter And The Family Shakers from Italy, The Special Agents from the UK, The Yards from the USA and Vic Flick (The original 007 guitarist) from the USA.Drenched in 6T's spy-fi and exotica with that glorious Hammond organ sound featuring heavily. Standout tracks other than the two previously listed have to be "Munchimoo boogaloo ( Tiki Torcher Mix)" by the Yards - a frollocking Tiki tinged affair that will get you reaching for your cocktail shaker, "Chasin' Chance" by Mike Painter will get you revvin' that Barracuda up if car chase themes are your thing and this one is one of the better ones i've heard, blistering stuff! And if the funk purists are thinking "why am I still reading this?" then perhaps I should mention The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E's wonderful "How Good Is Good" style frenzied workout on the B3 "Krambamuli '67". Ass spanked? Yes please. Just hope the film lives up to the soundtrack!

The Link Quartet
'Italian Playboys'
Hammond Beat

Hammond Beat is a name synonymous with excellence in its niche genre, they nurture and present the cream of the crop in the Hammond music scene from around the world. So with that said it's always a real pleasure to hear whatthey issue. The Link Quartet is not a disappointment, its almost as if The Brand New Heavies never happened and the spirit of acid Jazz had remained pure. If you were like me and wanted more of that wailing RnB Jazz and pounding Hammond madness and less candy floss then you'll love this!
The Link Quartet produce the kind of organ madness that you'd expect to find more in a compilation of Library music dug up by Luke Vibert or Barry - 7, it transcends the normal mod purist sound that so many of their peers striveto perfect, a track 'Milwaukee Hunter' is more hip hop than even John Murtaugh's 'Slinky', but having said that there are some top notch straight ahead floor fillers here such as 'Rubber Monkey' which I can see being spun in every decent freakbeat room around the world.
Featuring Eddie Roberts from the UK's The New Mastersounds and Doug Roberts from The Diplomats Of Solid Sound, there are some killer funk moments which will get some of the pre 66 obsessive folk skipping a track here and there and the more open minded of us turning the volume up, not your usual all-the-same-pace Hammond LP this one has more up and downs than a ride on John Holmes lap, there's a whole spectrum of sound and emotion from blistering 'The Champ' on acid freak outs to cheeky mod jazz pop to heavy guitar soaked grooves. Eddie Roberts's sitar on 'Spider Baby' will get the mod jet set, young and old, wetting themselves when they hear it. An essential soundtrack for very groovy times indeed.

GARAGE AND BEAT

THE LINK QUARTET
"Italian Playboys" CD
This is music to eat pizza in your snazziest smoking jacket to. Or maybe that's just my limited imagination coming to the fore in response to the provocative title. This is one of the premiere bands recording for a label devoted to the super cool sounds of the Hammond organ in a retro setting. If you like Booker T & the MGs, "Shades of..." era Deep Purple and/or Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited, you will appreciate where this group is coming from. There are a couple of vocal tracks, but the majority of the material is made up of swinging, whacked out instrumental cuts. The covers include works by the Beatles, Santa Barbara Machine Head and four others. Eight of the fourteen tracks are band originals and shine just as brightly. (Hammond Beat www.hammondbeat.com)

Pretty hot and cool (if you see what I mean) Hammond organ-led quartet withlots of funky guitar, keys and drums going on. Slick professional take onwhat's more sixties / seventies jazz funk than out and out MGs copyists andgood for them. The band's third album and nine strong original cuts hereplus a bit of Deep Purple's Jon Lord and Brother Jack McDuff all played withvigour and energy. Ideal good night-clubbing or high flying soundtrack.Memorable album.

The sound of danger - ALTERNATIZINE

Wilson Chance
The sound of danger
Hammond beat - 2004

Bella A spy in the ointment, da brividi Tinker, tailor, surfer, spy e The Wilson Chance theme, onirica e spaziale The lunar sea.

THE SOUND OF DANGER

Hammondbeat Brief Description:

Another Hammond organ monster from the www.HAMMONDBEAT.com community!!!Wilson Chance: The Sound of Danger is a new kind of soundtrack...or is it? A collaborative effort with 5 instrumental artists working together toward a common goal. Hand selected by filmmakers Jeffrey and George Bunzendahl to achieve the right aural texture for their film, and further exploited by Hammondbeat's creative director Kahlil Breithaupt to deliver a unique sidebar that at once stands on its own as a groovy 6Ts-ish instrumental compilation as well as being a cohesive filmic tale of espionage, action, danger, and what everyone needs...sex.The Sound of Danger divides into several combinations, but most obviously there is the spy-surf stylings of The Special Agents (UK) and The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E. (Switzerland) along with a contemporary dose from 007 guitar legend Vic Flick...yes, THE James Bond Theme! In equal measure there are the heavy Hammond organ spy-beat grooves from THE definitive Italiano bands The Link Quartet (Piacenza) and Mike Painter & The Family Shakers (Milano). The Sound of Danger also delivers a 3-act film structure that fluidly moves from scene-to-scene with a dash of dialogue here and action effects there, but not in a gimmicky way and never at the expense of the music. You will undoubtedly find your own ways of defining the album's structure too, and how many different ways you can resequence and edit it for different listening scenarios! The relationship between the music and Wilson Chance began with Vic Flick signing on to provide the score to the film. It is both 6T's familiar and topically modern, adding electronics to the mix, while preserving that distinctive Flick guitar style. Hammondbeat soon joined the party with the addition of The Link Quartet and 5 songs from the 2002 release "BEAT.IT" (also available at CDBaby...hint, hint!), and introductions went out to The Special Agents, The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E., and a bit later Mike Painter & The Family Shakers (also available at CDBaby!!), all of whom contributed tracks from their recent albums to the film. While that was churning away in the director's editing bay of his studio, we all got a little anxious to make something happen sooner than later, and an album - this album - started to take shape, but rather than recycle the same songs previously released on CD, a brand new score was the thing the fans would want and from that a new story too. Part 3Ts detective radio drama and part 6Ts swinging London, this album represents 1/2 of the tale. The full audio drama featuring the cast of Wilson Chance is soon for this world, and twists and turns the music in yet another whole new way.The Sound of Danger is 70 minutes of audio overload, and features previously unreleased music from todays best Hammond organ bands:The Link Quartet: "The Sound of Danger", "Greased On Delta Street", "Souvenir de Macon", and "Deliquesced by Devonshire"The Special Agents: "A Spy In The Ointment", "Tinker Tailor Surfer Spy", "The Lunar Sea (part 2)", and "Wilson Chance Theme" (composed by Vic Flick)The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E.: "Last Chance", "Krambambuli '67", and "Targets"Mike Painter & The Family Shakers: "Chasin' Chance", "Soul Hunter", and "Kitty's Rendezvous"Plus a very special guest appearance by The Yards with a tune ("Munchimoo Boogaloo") that will blow the lid off any prior notions you may have had, and of course songs and elements from Vic's score both straight-up and on-the-rocks tie the whole thing together.

THE ITALIAN NEWSPAPER

ITALIAN PLAYBOYS REVIEW
THE ITALIAN NEWSPAPER
PHILADELPHIA, PA (USA)
ISSUE: FEBRUARY 2005

If there was a sound that described Austin Powers in Roma or Starsky & Hutch in Napoli, it would be The Link Quartet. The Link Quartet plays 1960's Beat music like it's never been played before. It's energetic, it's frantic, and it's about to become the next big sensation in America.Italy's The Link Quartet has been making their funky music for over a decade. Relatively unknown outside of their native country, The Link Quartet is slowly building a following in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where the Swing music revival of the 1990's was born. The Link Quartet is lead by the driving sound of the Hammond organ, which creates the fat full-bodied sound so common in most 1960's pop. The organ is backed up by a fuzzed out electric guitar which is equal parts psychedelic 1960's and funked-out 1970's. Filling out The Link Quartet is the spy theme influenced bass guitar and hard rocking drumming. Together, they create the sonic equivalent of a car chase."Italian Playboys", the latest release by The Link Quartet is a great introduction to the band as well as the revived 1960's Beat scene. This is not listening music, though. The Link Quartet is party music; it's driving music; it's high energy excitement set to a funky rhythm."Portofino Vespa Rider" is the quintessential song from The Link Quartet. Its easy flowing 1960's beat conjures images of a scooter ride through the streets of Los Angeles. To the funky rhythm of "Portofino Vespa Rider", you could imagine cruising past outdoor cafes, palm trees, and a lot of sunshine. If you are looking for Frank Sinatra or Andrea Bocelli, look elsewhere. But if you own a small restaurant/bar or are planning a wild house party, The Link Quartet may be right for you. Their unique sound and retro feel could make them the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy of the Beat scene.

THE LINK QUARTET
Italian Playboys
Hammond Beat Records

Un puro distillato di sixties way of life.

THE DIPLOMATS OF SOLID SOUND "Destination...Get Down!"

Steeped in the sizzling, funky gumbo of Booker T & The MG’s, The Meters, James Brown and the B-3-driven, backyard barbecue jams of Jimmy Smith, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy McGriff, Lonnie Smith and Jack McDuff, THE DIPLOMATS OF SOLID SOUND surge forward in their passionate crusade to steam-clean the planet’s dancefloors with their third full-length platter percolation, DESTINATION...GET DOWN!
Set to hit the racks April 12th, 2005 on Estrus Records, DESTINATION...GET DOWN! continues to extend the ever-upward arc that began with DOSS’ acclaimed 2001 debut, INSTRUMENTAL ACTION SOUL, then took a quantum leap on 2003’s groovathon, LET’S COOL ONE. Their latest soul stew is jam-packed from jump street till closing time with a dozen more original workouts guaranteed to lubricate and agitate every bone in yer carcass, and the addition of sax maven David Basinger to the fold gives DOSS its most muscular, inventive and flexible attack yet.Nate “Count” Basinger’s swirling, fuel-injected B-3 remains front-and-center, and--with the recent departure of bassist Dustin Conner--also provides the quartet with a quivering, chubby bottom. Guitarist Doug Roberson shifts deftly from classic rhythm comps (evoking such masters of the form as Steve Cropper, Grant Green and Curtis Mayfield) to a fluid collection of stinging, spot-on lead runs accumulated over years on the rock’n’soul trail. Drummer Jim Viner propels the hip-shakin’ action with impeccable taste and economy.
Produced by John Svec and DOSS at Svec’s Minstrel Studio over three extended sessions in 2004, DESTINATION...GET DOWN! presents the Solid Sound with minimal overdubs, offering a jaw-dropping glimpse of the band’s propulsive, kinetic ‘live’ sound.
